New Releases This Week (1/16-1/20)

You're going to hear a bunch about the Box Office returns over the weekend from everyone who has anything to say about films. I'm just going to skip that part and tell you what new films you can expect to hit theaters this week - so you can plan your date night(s) accordingly.

Friday, January 20

  • The Founder
    • This Michael Keaton film tells the story of Ray Kroc and how McDonald's got started on the path to become the behemoth it is today. I'm glad Keaton is getting back into films, and I'm not mad about his choices so far. Let's hope this one continues that trend.
  • The Resurrection of Gavin Stone
    • Brett Dalton from 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', stars as a guy who gets in trouble and tries to fake his way through whatever lesson he is supposed to learn, but ends up really understanding his faith and humanity in the process. I am predicting a happy ending, and I'm okay with that. Based on the trailer alone I'm interested.
  • Split
    • James McAvoy stars in this latest thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, but that shouldn't stop you. The trailer looks awesome and McAvoy has made some good choices when it comes to showcasing his talent. I think it is worth a shot.
  • xXx: Return of Xander Cage
    • Vin Diesel is back, and Sam Jackson is with him. Honestly, I never saw the first two and have no interest in this series. I can't say anything about it, other than I haven't seen much marketing for this, and it's coming out in January. Perhaps that is all you need to know.
    • My Snap Judgement: Meh.
  • (?) Trespass Against Us
    • I don't know if I ever saw a trailer for this new Michael Fassbender flick. Here is the synopsis: After an elaborate heist goes south, reluctant criminal Chad (Michael Fassbender) must find a way to escape from the clutches of his fierce outlaw father (Brendan Gleeson) and the encroaching police.
